Saipan Ultimate holds frisbee tourney this weekend
Saipan Ultimate will be having an ultimate frisbee contest dubbed as Saipan Land and Sand Hat Tournament on Nov. 11 and 12.
The land portion of the tournament will be held at Mariana Resort & Spa baseball field in Marpi this Saturday, starting at 8am, and the sand portion will be played at Fiesta Resort & Spa beach this Sunday, beginning at 9am.
The competition aims to encourage newcomers to learn more about the game of ultimate frisbee, improve their skills, and play a fun, competitive game. It is also an opportunity to play with off-island players. This year’s event will bring together players from Guam, Hong Kong, China, and Russia.
Teams will be picked from several hats. Players will rank themselves based on experience and athleticism. Each hat will have players with similar experience/athleticism. Each team will have several players from each hat or level. This is to encourage evenly matched teams and ensure that everyone, from seasoned veterans to newcomers, will have a good time.
The tournament has excellent sponsors, including DFS Saipan, Pacific Islands Club Saipan, The Shack, Fiesta Resort and Spa, Hyatt Saipan, Godfather’s, Marianas Visitors Authority, Triple J, and IT&E. There will be prizes for the winning and most spirited teams as well as individual awards for most valuable player, most spirited player, and others.
Registration fee per player is $40 and each participant will get a custom designed Saipan Ultimate dryfit jersey, breakfast snacks, lunch both days, a party, and two awesome days of Ultimate Frisbee.
