Tribute to a noble man: Imants ‘Ed’ Klingbergs
Whereof the man, that with me trod
This planet, was a noble type
Appearing ere the times were ripe,
That friend of mine who lives in God.
—Alfred, Lord Tennyson, In Memoriam
Physical distance is one thing; but the heart’s distance another.
Thus I remained close to a dear friend on Saipan: Imants “Ed” Klingbergs.
It was a bit of a shock to learn of his death on Oct. 29, 2017.
A kind and noble man has left us.
Long-term educator, entrepreneur, builder, landlord and close friend, Edward was always there to help others.
His kindness, calmness and wisdom were a godsend for those who may have run into difficulties navigating the ups and downs of island life. He was someone you always could count on no matter what. He loved his children and grand children and thought being with them was the greatest pleasure life had to offer.
His last project I believe was to build a house in the mountains with a beautiful ocean view. He finished it and I trust his spirit will have a place to rest. All who knew could not help but to be influenced by his kindness, resilience, stability, and generosity. His heart touched many. He will be deeply missed.
