Spigen hammered the Gold Ballers, 120-79, during the nightcap in the 2nd Ali’i Blue Haus Invitational Basketball League last Sunday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.

Spigen showed too much firepower on offense to rout the Gold Ballers and get its fourth win in eight games. The Gold Ballers absorbed its fifth loss and so far has only two wins in the league.

Three Spigen players scored 20-plus points, two others also hit double figures, while two more combined for 16. Dick Tibayan had a breakout game for Spigen, as he sizzled for 28 points and knocked down six triples. Bruce Berline chipped in 24, while Mike Umali contributed 22. Ferdie Tobias and Lerio Pagarao registered 14 markers apiece, while Gerald Aniciete and Isagani Cortez logged 8 each to complete Spigen’s dominance of the Gold Ballers.

With Spigen on target, it built an early double-digit lead at the end of the first quarter, 29-16, and blew the game wide open in the second, 64-35. The Gold Ballers never made an attempt to cut the deficit to a decent number, as it did not have enough manpower to match up with Spigen’s scorers. The Gold Ballers had only six players available for the weekend match.

Meanwhile, in the curtain-raiser last Sunday, Team Sawi continued to climb up the ladder following an 82-79 upset over Tropang Ridhors.

Team Sawi now has won four of its last five games since a 0-2 start to move at the top half of the team standings.

As usual, Team Sawi got solid games from Errol Peredo and Brendon Talania to beat Ridhors. Peredo had a team-high 26 points, while not far behind was Talania with his 25 markers. Talania drilled 13 of his total points in the fourth canto, while Peredo delivered in the first three periods to help Team Sawi keep pace with Tropang Ridhors (7-3).
