2 arrested in ‘ice’ case
A woman suspected as one of the main sources of methamphetamine or “ice” on Saipan and her alleged associate were arrested last Wednesday in Chalan Kanoa.
Karina Aldan Castro, 44, and Dave Angui, 57, were arrested for trafficking and possession of a controlled substance, and conspiracy.
The two were arrested by members of the CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force.
A $100,000 cash bail was each imposed on Castro and Angui; preliminary hearing is on Nov. 1 at 9am.
Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds appeared for the government. Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit served as counsel for Castro, while a private counsel will be appointed for Angui.
According to police officer Jeffrey I. Norita, a cooperating source of the task force managed to purchase “ice” from Castro and Angui at Castro’s residence on Elphidia Street in Chalan Kanoa during “buy-walk” operations last Sept. 13 and 19.
In his report, Norita said their cooperating source was able to buy $200 worth of 0.7 gross grams of “ice” during the first operation and $400 worth of 1.2 gross grams of “ice” in the second operation.
The bail hearing yesterday was presided by Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo.
