The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands reported an 89.83-percent average occupancy rate among 11 member-hotels for September 2017.
The figure reflects a 5-percent increase compared to September 2016 and is second only to the September 2015 record of 94.27 percent.
Average room rates set a new record for September at $132.52, compared to $130.98 last September.
A total of 69,550 of 62,475 available room nights sold in September 2017, compared to 69,501 of 58,920 available room nights sold over the same period last year.
“Tourism is strong in the Marianas, and at this time HANMI is focused on ensuring the continued smooth operation of our facilities and service and facility improvements,” said HANMI chair Gloria Cavanagh. “Most especially, hotels with public land leases that have helped sustain the industry over the last 30 to 40 years are hopeful for the opportunity to negotiate extended or new land leases under SB 20-35. We welcome the opportunity to continue building the economy and being a part of this community.”
“Also, we are very excited about our CNMI Next Top Chef 2017 competition on Nov. 9 at Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan,” said Cavanagh. “This event highlights the culinary trade and partnerships that are such an important part of the local hospitality industry, and all proceeds will go toward Empty Vessel Ministry Foundation, which continues to do tremendous outreach in the community to serve women, children and other individuals in need. HANMI is proud to be organizing this year’s event with them, again.”
HANMI was established in 1985 as a professional forum for the hospitality industry of the NMI. HANMI also makes regular charitable donations to support non-profit organizations and tourism-related government projects. (PR)
