All is set for the United Filipino Organization’s Pusong Pinoy and the group is inviting the whole community to take part in what they hope to be an annual Valentine’s Day celebration.
The event is slated for tomorrow, Feb. 12, at the Civic Center grounds in Susupe.
UFO president Bong Malasarte expressed his appreciation to Docomo Pacific for sponsoring Pusong Pinoy, which will be open to couples, families, and even singles who want to mark the occasion with whole day of fun, games and activities, and a lot of exciting prizes.
“We want to thank them for their generosity in making this event possible,” he told Saipan Tribune.
Malasarte said that they will be constructing a stage and setting up the tents for all 16 food and non-food vendors today.
The participating food vendors are Shirley’s Coffee Shop, La Mocha Restaurant, Plates En Boxes, Sandjuvy Restaurant, Connie’s Diner, Jolog’s, Top Cuisine, Mr. Smoothie, and TC Catering.
Non-food sellers are Natasha Service Center, Chellu Alynes Jewelry, Maranatha store, Wimzy Corp., Anew Excel International Corp., Green Life, and Asia Mart.
Secretary Annamae Adaza, who is also the event’s program committee co-chair, said there are a total of six challengers for the Panlasang Pinoy food contest.
These challengers will vie for the $300 first prize for the best tasting Pinoy dishes that they will prepare: pork adobo, beef caldereta, tinolang manok, ginataang tuna, and pinakbet. Cash prizes of $200 and $100 will be given to the second and third place winners, respectively.
Meanwhile, there are eight young finalists for the Pusong Pinoy 2012 beauty pageant, which is open to young females ages 15 to 25 years old who will compete in four categories: sportswear, talent portion, formal wear, and question-and-answer.
These beautiful candidates are Saipan Southern High School’s Sheryl Lou Indalecio, 16; Chinatown resident Lou Angeline Gascon, 15; Marianas High School’s Carla Camille Flores, 16; Chalan Kanoa resident Rita Lorraine V. Doca, 16; Josie Ann Santos, 15, also of SSHS; Northern Marianas College student Holly Kane Medina, 19; Susupe resident Maria Angelica Malasarte, 15; and Kahra Bisnar Atalig, 16, also of MHS.
The girls’ production numbers at the event are choreographed and directed by Joel Vallega.
Adaza said there will also be a Valentine card drawing contest in two age groups: for children 7 to 13 years old and teens 15 to 19 years old.
Raffle tickets will also be sold at the venue for a chance to win exciting prizes donated by numerous sponsors and donors who will be acknowledged at the program.
“We are inviting all our kababayans and the CNMI community to join us and with all your support, the event will be a huge success,” said Adaza.
