Aircraft of the U.S. Navy’s Carrier Air Wing 17 will conduct training near Saipan from Oct. 28 to Oct. 30, 2017.

During the exercise, F/A-18 fighter jets will operate within a radius of five nautical miles around the island of Saipan, including occasional island overflights.

Following the guidelines of the Federal Aviation Administration, pilots will maintain a minimum altitude of 15,000 feet.

The F/A-18 is the Navy’s primary multirole combat jet. Widely regarded as the best class of fighter on the planet, the F/A-18 is a twin-engine all-weather supersonic fighter and attack aircraft that can operate day or night.

CVW-17 consists of nine squadrons of various types of aircraft and is assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt is a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, the largest class of carrier in the world. Named after the 26th President of the United States, the USS Theodore Roosevelt is also known as “The Big Stick” and is one of 10 Nimitz-class carriers serving the U.S. Navy. (PR)
