The Chow Time-Blue Haus Destroyers gave sister team Assassins no room to operate in cruising to a 9-3 decision in their finals match for the Saipan Billiards Association’s Tuesday League Budweiser Cup.
The quintet of Gian Flores, Jeff Garcia, Rico Montano, Roman Rodriguez, and Cesar Sangalang showed they have the better skills in the matchup between the teams that failed to make it to the Top 3 in the regular season.
The Destroyers finished fourth and edged the 9 Eleven Docomo Hustlers, 9-8, in the semifinals. The Destroyers dispatched the 9 Eleven Titans in their first game, 9-5. The Assassins, on the other hand, ended up at the cellar, but escaped with a 9-8 triumph over Tasha’s Crazy 8 in their own semis showdown.
Randy Sablan and John Reyes scored the wins for the Assassins. Sablan defeated Rico Montano and Cesar Sangalang in separate Singles 8-Ball matches then teamed up with John Reyes in dispatching the duo of Roman Rodriguez and Sangalang in one of the three Partner’s 8-Ball games played last week.
In the Thursday League, the 9 Eleven Titans II and Chow Time-Blue Haus Homeboyz dispatched their respective opponents to arrange a finals showdown for the Budweiser Cup. The finals will be played this Thursday.
The Titans II, who completed a 9-7 win to eliminate regular season topnotcher 9 Eleven MJD Warriors in the first round, squeezed out a 9-8 decision over the Chow Time 8 Black Ball.
The Titans and the Black Ball battled to an 8-8 scores with the Partner’s 8-Ball left to decide which team will be advancing to the finals. Ray Matsunaga and Shane Quitugua proved they have the nerves down the stretch against the Black Ball’s pair of Rey Hermogenes and Mervin Sahagun to propel the Titans to the title match.
The Homeboyz had an easier route to the finals as it dismantled the 9 Eleven Jam Shooters, 9-2.
Nolan Cultura, Gian Flores, Jeff Garcia, Cesar Sangalang moved the Homeboyz three matches away from clinching the finals berth after beating their respective opponents in the Partner’s and Singles 8-Ball events.
Marlon Contreras, Rommel Crisostomo, Roderick Cunanan, Aljay Malang, Lito Pangilinan, and Nino Zapanta could not find the right combination to stop the Homeboyz’s onslaught. The pairs of Pangilinan and Contreras and Zapanta and Malang bounced back in the next Partner’s 8-Ball events to avoid a shutout loss for the Jam Shooters. Pangilinan and Contreras bested Lizardo ang Guiab, while Zapanta and Malang defeated Cultura and Garcia in other results.
