$1M bail for wanted man

A man who had gone missing in Illinois and is accused of sexually assaulting a child was tracked down to Saipan and is now awaiting extradition.
Citing the seriousness of the charges, a judge imposed a $1 million cash bail on Sean P. McDonnell, 39.
McDonnell is wanted in the county of Rock Island in Illinois, on multiple charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.
He was arrested on Saipan last Friday and was taken yesterday afternoon before the Superior Court for a bail hearing.
Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio granted assistant attorney general Heather Barcinas’ request to impose a $1 million bail on McDonnell, citing the charges he faces, the danger he poses to children in the CNMI, and his status as a flight risk.
Kim-Tenorio set the extradition hearing for Nov. 13, 2017.
Assistant public defender Nancy Dominski served as counsel for McDonnell.
A joint effort between the U.S. Marshals and the Department of Public Safety led by police sergeant George F. David led to McDonnell’s arrest in Susupe last Friday at about 1pm.
An Illinois judge issued an arrest warrant against McDonnell last Sept. 27 on charges of three counts of criminal sexual assault and four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. The Illinois judge imposed a $250,000 bail.
Barcinas charged McDonnell yesterday with one count of fugitive from justice. She said that McDonnell is charged in Illinois with a crime punishable by death or imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, and is therefore subject to extradition.
There was no information as to when McDonnell arrived on Saipan.
The Moline Police Department recently sought the community’s help in locating McDonnell.
The Moline Police Department said McDonnell went missing under mysterious circumstances and that he was last seen driving his black Dodge truck last Sept. 11.
