UOG upgrades campus Wi-Fi network
The University of Guam will launch a new, upgraded Wi-Fi network on Nov. 1, 2017. UOG has partnered with eduroam (education roaming), a secure, worldwide Internet access service developed for the international research and education communities. Through the eduroam network, UOG students, faculty, researchers, and staff can access the Internet across the campus and in over 550 institutions in the U.S. and international institutions in 70 countries.
“We are very excited to offer eduroam to our campus community,” said Rommel Hidalgo, chief information officer. “Being part of this global partnership provides us with resources and connectivity all over the world.”
Eduroam will provide users on campus with connections as fast as 150 Mbps. With future upgrades planned, Hidalgo said the connection speeds will approach 1 Gbps, nearly seven times faster.
UOG students and employees can access the eduroam network now and should log in before Oct. 31 to activate their connection. The current UOG Wi-Fi network will be discontinued on Nov. 1.
Access is easy
When on the UOG campus, users simply select eduroam from the list of available Wi-Fi networks and enter their UOG email address and Triton Portal password.
