The CNMI’s Carol Lee will begin her series of tournaments in Asia today as she competes in the 1st ITF Perlis Junior Championship 2017 in Malaysia.

The contest is a Grade 4 event and will be played at the Tuanku Syed Putra Tennis Complex in Kangar, Perlis with Lee expected to be among the seeded players in the singles and doubles competitions. The 15-year-old Lee is the second highest ranked player on the acceptance list at No. 220, behind No. 206 of Jiaqi Wang of China. Draws were held yesterday, but were unavailable at press time.

Lee and Wang will be battling the singles and doubles crown against players from the host country, India, Philippines, Kazakhstan, Chinese-Taipei, Hong Kong, Poland, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, and Japan.

The CNMI bet will be playing in the Perlis Junior Championship and three more tournaments this month alone as a member of the Asian Tennis Federation Touring Team. She earned a slot on the elite squad after her outstanding showing in tournaments in Morocco and New Caledonia this year and for playing for Pacific Oceania in 2017 Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group II.

From Kangar, Perlis, Lee will go to Sarawak for the 30th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup (II) ITF Junior Circuit, a Grade 3 tournament that offers 60 ITF Juniors ranking points to the singles champion and 50 to the doubles winners (each) and will run from Oct. 10 to 15. The Commonwealth player currently has 201.25 ranking points (combined)—170 in singles and 125 in doubles.

Then from Malaysia, the three-time NMSA/Tan Siu Lin Foundation Female Student Athlete of the Year awardee will head to Thailand for two more competitions. First up for Lee is the PTT-ITF Junior Grade 2 that will take place in Nonthaburi from Oct. 16 to 21. She will stay in Nonthaburi until Oct. 28 for the PTT-ITF Junior Grade 4 that will start on Oct. 23.
