ROTA—The 4 Musketeers nosed out Old School, 20-19, in the men’s division finals of the Rota leg of the 3×3 Hoopfest Marianas 2017 held at the Rota Gymnasium last Saturday.

Darren Santos, Victorino Mendiola Jr., Cisco Atalig, and Garry Toves Jr. played for the champion team.

“Winning first place feels good. Knowing that I put my best to work made me gain something out of the tournament, which was pretty intense. Despite it being intense, I had fun.” Mendiola said.

With its title win, the 4 Musketeers along with Old School gained tickets to the final round of the 3×3 Hoopfest Marianas 2017 that will be played this weekend on Saipan at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The Rota champion squad is in Pool A of the preliminary games in the final round, joining Saipan winner Ol’Aces, Almost, and Tinian’s Busta. Old School is in Pool B with Saipan leg semifinalists Paki 3 and Nik Nak, and Tinian’s Alpha Males.

The champion in the finale will have a chance to represent the CNMI in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games, which will be held in Port Vila, Vanuatu from Dec. 4 to 15.

Meanwhile, besides the 3×3 games, Rota also held a shootout contest last weekend with Mark Mendiola winning the “money ball.” He scored seven points to beat the six of Raccine Hizon.
