Off-island bands are taking advantage of the opportunity to play the “Friendly Island” in the Marianas during Bisita Luta on Oct. 5-7, 2017.
According to organizers, the public concert on Oct. 6 will feature Northern Star Band from Saipan and 5 on It Band from Guam. Bisita Luta (visit Rota) will also include a fiesta, a fishing derby and more.
“The Marianas Visitors Authority is pleased to be a sponsor of Bisita Luta again this year and look forward to joining the Rota Mayor’s Office in welcoming visitors next week,” said MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. “We recently brought in Taiwanese and Russia media to attend the Rota Coconut Festival because we know Rota has its own unique charms that appeal to many visitors. We continue to work to bring more visitors to the island.”
Most festivities will take place at the Chamorro Village Park in Songsong.
On Oct. 5, there will be a Night Market and Street Dance Competition at 7pm. Fisherman participating in the next day’s Bud Light Fishing Derby will have an orientation at West Harbor Marina at 5pm. The Bud Light Fishing Derby will kick off the following day, Oct. 6.
The Night Market will feature the Binadu Festival and Rota Wildlife Showcase beginning at 6pm. The binadu (Philippine deer) roam wild on Rota and are a local delicacy. The public concert is also set for that evening at the Rota Chamorro Village Park.
In honor of Songsong’s patron saint, San Francisco de Borja, a Mass will be held on Oct. 7, Saturday, at San Francisco de Borja Parish at 3:30pm, followed by dinner and entertainment. The Bud Light Fishing Derby will continue that day, with awards presented at the fiesta grounds.
The weekend event is organized by the Rota Mayor’s Office with support from Rota Municipal Council, Rota Legislative Delegation, the MVA, IT&E, Ambros Inc., Imperial Pacific International, and Rota governmental departments, in partnership with the San Francisco de Borja Fiesta Committee and Parish Council.
