28 squads to play in Hoopfest Marianas finale

The stage is set for the final round of the 3×3 Hoopfest Marianas 2017 with 28 teams from Saipan, Tinian, and Rota playing in the weekend competition at the Gilbert C. Ada Gynasium.
The participating squads are divided into five groups with teams entered in the men’s and women’s open categories having the chance to represent the CNMI in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, Vanuatu this December.
In the men’s open division, eight teams will fight for the Pacific Mini Games slots and the bragging rights in the inaugural 3×3 tournament. Saipan leg champion the Ol’Aces lead the list and are in Pool A along with fellow Saipan qualifier Almost, Rota’s 4 Musketers, and Tinian’s Busta. Saipan leg semifinalists Paki 3, Nik Nak, Old Skool, and Tinian’s Alpha Males are in Pool B.
In the women’s open division, it will be an-all Saipan battle with first leg champion Fab IV tagged as the early favorites against CTSI, Blue Babes, and HiDaze.
In the boys U19 division, Team Luta is in Pool A along with Saipan leg winner V-God and the Warriors. Tinian’s Typhoon will battle Big B’s and Island3rz in Pool B. The Typhoon is also playing in the girls U19 division, joining Hilitai, Lady Ol’Aces and Dandan Middle School.
For the boys U15 division, there will be six competitors with Saipan leg top finisher Ballers Bros, Typhoon 2, and Young Ballers in Pool A and Boonk Gang, D-Squad, and the Ol’Aces in Pool B.
A mandatory captains meeting will be held tomorrow at 5:30pm at the conference room of the Ada Gym, while matches will start at 9:30am this Saturday after the 8:30am opening ceremony. Preliminary games will be played on Saturday, while title matches are set for Sunday.
