MCHB joins annual car seat check
For the first time, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau took part in the National Car Seat Safety Check at the Susupe Civic Center last Saturday.
Hosted annually by the Department of Public Safety, the event, which was also a Family Fun Day, was intended to promote car seat safety.
According to DPS Child Protection and Child restrain program manager Conrad Castro, the National Car Seat Safety Check is an annual event in the United States and its territories.
It has become an annual tradition for DPS, Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, and the Public School System. This year was significant because MCHB decided to take part.
According to MCHB Family Assessment worker Leiana Ogumoro Saures, they joined the campaign because they support the effort to protect children.
“They [DPS] work with children with the car seat safety and that is one of the education services that we provide to our families that are in the Home Visiting Program under the Maternal and Child Health Bureau,” said Saures.
Saures encouraged families to visit their office or DPS and make use of the many services that both agencies provide.
DPS was able to conduct over 20 car seat inspections last Saturday.
Castro invites families and individuals to visit DPS from 9am to 11am and 1pm to 3pm for car seat inspections.
According to Saures, over 100 individuals came out for the car seat check and fun day. The bureau also gave out T-shirts and water bottles to registered participants.
