The Office of the Governor and the Department of Commerce are inviting the community to the 2017 Business Summit on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at the Pacific Islands Club’s Charley’s Cabaret.

The 2017 Business Summit will center on the theme “Aspire to Own,” which speaks to the renewed spirit of entrepreneurship in the CNMI. The summit features local entrepreneurs sharing their experience and insight about the opportunities and challenges of starting and operating a successful business in the CNMI.

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres said that now is a great time for young and aspiring entrepreneurs to enter the economy and lead the way for the new generation of locally-owned businesses.

“I highly encourage anyone with a dream to attend and listen to some of the best folks in our business community. Since coming into office, this government has witnessed more than 1,500 new businesses open up shop to provide goods and services, offer new restaurant opportunities, and accommodations for our tourists. To those dreams still waiting to be chased, the resources are here, the market is growing. The time is now to make your dream a reality. Your government is standing ready to support you. We are your partners, and we are committed to making sure you achieve success,” Torres said.

Commerce Secretary Mark O. Rabauliman said the summit will offer attendees the opportunity to interact with a diverse selection of successful corporations, federal and local government agencies, educators, and financial institutions.

“In line with the administration’s economic vision, summit attendees will gain valuable knowledge, insight, and practical tips on how to start a business and strategies for succeeding in the CNMI’s economic landscape,” Rabauliman said.

Topics will include capitalizing business ventures, identifying appropriate market strategies, identifying opportunities, logistics (import/export) and understanding business interaction with the federal and local government.

The summit is for everyone, even if they are undecided about opening up a new business, said Small Business Development Center administrator Nicole Babauta.

“We invite all residents of the CNMI to attend. The Business Summit will present an impressive lineup of speakers. Whether you are considering getting into business or you are an established business, this is an event to attend. Through the promotion of entrepreneurship and innovation, the CNMI’s economy can continue to foster growth and development. The goal is to engage citizens of the CNMI aspiring to be entrepreneurs to enter into the business community. Join leaders from the private and public sectors in their efforts to launch new and aspiring entrepreneurs,” Babauta said.

Summit attendees can also enjoy free professional headshots and an entrepreneur training program at the mini-expo after the summit.

Registration for the 2017 Business Summit begins that day on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 7:30am. Space is limited, so the community is encouraged to be there early. (PR)
