Tropang Ridhors coasted to a 90-71 victory over the Green Archers in the curtain-raiser in the 2nd Invitational IT&E/Blue Haus Friendly Basketball League last Wednesday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.
Tropang Ridhors flaunted its offensive firepower in its debut game resulting to a 19-rout of the clueless Green Archers. Four Tropang Ridhors players combined for more than half of the team’s production for the easy win. Mervin Sahagun led the scoring surge with his 23 points, while Junar Guiab contributed 18, and Ken Viray and Joy Dayrit tallied 16 each. Tropang Ridhors’ key players could have poured in more points had they not opted to return to the bench at the halfway mark of the one-sided game to give their other teammates the opportunity to play.
As for the Green Archers, Frank Ferrer ended up as the team’s top scorer with his 25 markers, but his multiple baskets in every quarter failed to inspire his teammates to do the same. He had 9 markers in the first quarter where the Green Archers were still very match in the game down by only 4, 21-25.
However, Tropang Ridhors managed to increase the lead to double digits in the second canto, 49-33, as its main gunners teamed up in the breakaway.
Meanwhile, in other results in the opening week of the IT&E and Blue Haus-sponsored league, the Silencer split its first two games, beating Gold Ballers in its debut, 76-71, before bowing to Green Minded in last Wednesday’s tiff, 58-89.
Green Minded improved to a 2-0 record as it also prevailed in its first match against Team Sawi, 86-62.
