Destroyers rule Tuesday billiards

The Chow Time-Blue Haus Destroyers defeated the 9 Eleven Titans in the finals, 9-5, to rule the Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser Open 8-Ball Tuesday League last week at the latter’s home turf in San Jose.
Roman Rodriguez, Gian Flores, Nolan Cultura, Cezar Sangalang, Rico Montano, and Jeff Garcia alternated in securing the title for the Destroyers, as they beat their counterparts in the Singles and Masters 8-Ball events. Shane Quitugua, Pat Cepeda, Joe Cepeda, and Simon Kapileo earned the wins for the Titans with the former getting two by downing Rodriguez and Montano in the race-to-nine contest.
The Destroyers, who finished fourth in the regular season and scored an upset over the top-seeded 9 Eleven Docomo Hustlers in the knockout semifinals, proved to be steadier down the stretch to end up on top.
Tasha’s Str8 Black Ball, the second placer after the elimination round and was also ousted by the 9 Eleven Titans, bagged the third place with a 9-6 decision over the Hustlers.
In the Thursday League playoffs, the 9 Eleven MJD Warriors moved to the championship match after a 9-3 win over Tasha’s Wild Bills and will face the 9 Eleven Titans II.
The Titans II earned the right to face the Warriors after squeezing out a 9-8 victory against the Chow Time 8 Black Ball with Matsunaga and Quitugua securing the win by topping the duo of Mervin Sahagun and Jeff Gayas in the Partner’s 8 Ball.
The finals between the Warriors and Titans II and the Black Ball-Wild Bills battle for third will be played this Thursday.
