Demapan is SGA August Ace
Joe Demapan was hailed the Saipan Golfers Association Ace of the Month for August after firing a net score of 70 last Aug. 27 at the Kingfisher Golf Links.
Demapan bested a field of 18 after shooting a gross score of 84. The 14-handicapper had a 41 in the front nine before finishing up with a 43 in the back.
Nick Sablan and Alex Tudela finished tied for second with their identical scores of 72, but veteran national golfer Sablan took second after beating Tudela in the scorecard tiebreak. It actually took two playoff holes to break the tie.
Sablan had a gross score of 77, which minus his 5 handicap, gave him the 72, while the 12-handicapper Tudela had similar scores of 42s in the front and back.
Demapan now joins Frances Sablan (January), John “Nanni” Cruz (February), Juan Lizama (March), Nick Sablan (April), Larry Deleon Guerrero (May), Das Krishnan (June), and Steve Balakrishna (July) in the 2017 SGA Ace of the Month.
In the longest drive, Nick Sablan won in hole No. 7, while Tudela was the best in hole No. 14.
In the closest to the pin, Alex Tudela won in hole No. 6, Das Krishnan in hole No. 8, Attorney Genera Edward Manibusan in hole No. 12, and Jess Castro in hole No. 15.
The September SGA Ace of the Month Tournament is scheduled this Sunday, Sept. 24, at Coral Ocean Point Golf Course. Showtime is 8:30am with a tee time of 9:30am.
