Teen Ayuyus humbled by Indons

The CNMI U16 Boys National Team was overwhelmed by Indonesia, 18-0, during the second game in Group G of the AFC U16 Championship 2018 Qualifiers last Saturday at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Teen Ayuyus held their ground on defense in the early goings of the game before midfielder Mochammad Supriadi opened Indonesia’s scoring in the ninth minute. Supriadi’s goal sparked the Indons’ offense as they built a 6-0 halftime edge. Indonesia then played no let up in the second half, adding 12 more goals to rout the CNMI.

Supriadi went on to complete a hat trick in their first game, as he drilled two more goals in the second half (46th and 90th minute). Amiruddin Bagus duplicated Supriadi’s output, firing all his goals in the first half (13th, 25th, and 42nd minute). Another Indon forward Sutan Armandoondriano came off the bench, reporting for duty in the 46th minute and lighting up the board in the 49th, 63rd, 65th, 67th, and 82nd minute.

Also scoring multiple scorings for the winning squad were midfielder Hamsa Lestaluhu (70th, 72nd, and 88th minute) and Rendy Juliansyah (14th and 21st), while forwards Amanar Abdillah and Andre Oktaviansyah contributed one apiece.

Ernando Sutaryadi played as goalie for Indonesia and gave the CNMI little chance of making it to the board. Jason Quimzon was the Teen Ayuyus’ goalie and was joined on the starting 11 by siblings Taka and Ichiro Bora, Kirt Andon, Joshua Mendez, Mark Esalan, John Michael Rojas, Sebastien Manabat, Terrance Montenegro, Eun Syu Hahn, and Joseph Rasa. Ian Karl Maniago, Reginald Pascual, and John Guiller Canape were the substitutes.

After the big loss, the Teen Ayuyus are moving on as they shift their focus to their game against host Thailand today.

“We knew going into this game (versus Indonesia) and the rest of the matches are going to be tough, physically and mentally. The boys did their best on the field and played tough. They showed intensity throughout the match and never gave up. As for now, we want to make sure that the boys focus on their next game against home team Thailand. It will be a tougher competition as Thailand will have the home advantage and the crowd. This is a great learning experience for the boys and they know what to expect in this competition. Coach Mita (Michiteru Mita) is encouraging the boys not to mind the scores of every match, but just focus on playing their best for the team,” team manager Rodwealth Espana said in a message sent to Saipan Tribune.

Meanwhile, in the Group G opening game, Timor-Leste edged Laos, 5-2. Timor-Lester will go for win No. 2 when it takes on Indonesia in today’s first match at 4pm (7pm Saipan time). The CNMI-Indonesia tiff, on the other hand, is set for 7pm, Bangkok time.
