On Sept. 2-5, 2017, the Marianas Visitors Authority and Delta Air Lines began a three-part cycle of familiarization tours for Japanese travel agents.

Nine travel agents participated in the first tour, which allowed them to gain firsthand knowledge of the Marianas in order to better sell the destination to potential visitors. Participating travel agencies were JTB World Vacations, HIS, Kinki Nippon Tourist, Tobu Top Tours, ST World Inv., Nissin Travel Service, and IACE Travel. The group was also joined by a Delta representative.

“In Japan, travel agents are still very influential in helping travelers choose their destination, so bringing in agents to experience the destination themselves is one of the best ways to equip them to create new tour products,” said MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. “Ultimately, we want them to fall in love with the Marianas during their stay and to share that experience with their customers.”

The group inspected accommodations at Mariana Lounge, Aqua Resort Club, Kensington Hotel Saipan, GrandVrio Resort Saipan, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, Pacific Islands Club Saipan, Saipan World Resort, and Kanoa Resort.

Dining was experienced at 747 Dining & Bar, Hard Rock Café Saipan, Loco Taco, and Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Additional activities included SandCastle Saipan cocktail show, an eco-adventure tour with Marianas Trekking, marine activities at Managaha, Joyful Dinner Show at Fiesta Resort, Sea Touch marine animal encounter, shopping at T-Galleria and I Love Saipan, and a visit to the Imperial Pacific Resort Hotel casino.

The group lodged at Hyatt Regency Saipan during their tour. Two additional tours are scheduled for the coming months. (MVA)
