Lopsided matches in Belau softball
Lopsided matches were the order of the day in the 2017 Belau Masters Men’s Softball League with Peleliu blasting Asahi, 22-3, to tie Brotherhood on top of the standings at 11-1.
Mark Flores and James Fleming led Peleliu’s 22-hit parade, going 4-for-4 each against Asahi pitcher Perry Besong. They also combined for seven runs with Flores belting two homers with six RBIs and Fleming having two triples and an RBI.
Dominic Remeliik drove in four runs with 2-for-4 batting, Dominic Hideo went 3-for-4 to go with his homer, a triple, an RBI, and two runs while three more batters—George David, Ramon Villanueva, and Parker Yobei—each went 2-for-3. David also homered, scored twice, and had three RBIs, while Villanueva added two runs, two RBIs, and a double.
Villanueva started for Peleliu and was tagged with all three runs on seven hits with Mabel Ngirngemelas relieving him at the bottom of the fourth and immediately getting the first two outs after forcing Tobi Sebangiol and Matthew Kodin to 6-3 putout plays.
Ngirngemelas got the third out when he forced Robert Ngiramengior to a grounder that was played by Walter Macaranas to Charles Kenta after giving up a double to an earlier batter.
Meanwhile, the IPI SA Masters blitzed to a 17-2 win over Red Torch.
Jack Guerrero went perfect at the plate for IPI SA Masters, 3-for-3, had three runs, including a homer, and made two RBIs. J.J. Cabrera also homered on a 2-for-3 batting with two runs and three RBIs, while John Cepeda went 3-for-4, scored once and had two RBIs. Cepeda also pitched a complete game and surrendered two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
In other results, Momma Charu bulldozed past Sufa, 15-3, to hike its record to 8-3, while Karui dispatched the Papa Bears, 25-14.
