Two more graduates of the Northern Marianas College’s Class of 2017 recently passed the challenging National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses on their first attempt.

Joy Waldo and Joshua Tanghal, who graduated from NMC last May, have just passed the NCLEX, joining the ranks of other NMC graduates who passed the difficult exam before them. These students include Michael Hidalgo, Gemmilie Eugenio, Lovely Lopez, Mika Sablan, and Yuguen Oh, whose achievement in passing the NCLEX was announced recently.

The NCLEX-RN is the exam that nursing graduates in the CNMI must pass in order to become a practicing nurse. The exam tests the knowledge, skills, and abilities of nursing graduates in order to certify that they are equipped and capable to apply entry level nursing practices correctly.

“We are very proud of Joy’s and Joshua’s accomplishment as well as the other NMC students who have passed the NCLEX,” said NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez. “We are even more excited to learn that they plan to apply at [the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.] where they can apply their training as nurses.”

Rosa Tudela, chairperson of the NMC’s Nursing Department, said, “We are so excited by our graduates’ accomplishments. All of their hard work has paid off! Thank you also to my great faculty for doing such wonderful work with our students!”

To our students, it is our hope that you go on to advance your nursing education and give back to our community through your selfless service of care and devotion. We are confident that you are ready to meet any challenges before you and do your very best,” Tudela added.

“The Northern Marianas College Nursing Program prepared me very well to conquer this exam. The instructors were a big help; their constant push and advice made it possible for me to pass the NCLEX,” said Waldo.

Tanghal said many hours of studying and support from his family and friends helped him pass the test.
