Red Cross: Over 100 families still do not have homes after Soudelor

The American Red Cross-NMI Chapter has been working closely in collaboration with the Commonwealth Advocates for Recovery Effort in rebuilding houses for over 100 families on Saipan who still do not have homes after the Aug. 2, 2015, devastation of Typhoon Soudelor, according to ARC-NMI Chapter executive director John Hirsh.

Hirsh said CARE has the financial resources to support the rebuilding process, while construction workers from the U.S. mainland are also here assisting in the recovery efforts.

“We are working with our disaster case managers and, with the support of our local government and federal partners, we are slowly rebuilding those homes,” he said.

If it’s major damage to the house, Hirsh said they try to help repair the structure. If the house is completely destroyed, they provide resources to rebuild the home completely.

A Category 3 howler, Soudelor was one of the most powerful typhoons ever to hit the CNMI.
