3rd Marianas History Conference starts tomorrow
The Northern Marianas Humanities Council is hosting the 3rd Marianas History Conference, which will be held on Saipan from Sept. 1-2, 2017, at Fiesta Resort & Spa. Conference hours will run from 9am to 5pm on both days.
The conference will feature keynote presentations by Julian Aguon, Dr. Carlos Madrid, and Dr. Laura M. Torres Souder. This event is open to the public and free of charge. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition to the keynote addresses, the conference will include presentations by 32 local, regional, and international scholars whose research will cover a full range of topics associated with the archipelago’s history with a particular focus on the conference’s subtheme, “Milestones in Marianas History.”
Presentations will be in the following general categories: Ancient Chamorro History; Early Colonial (17th-18th centuries); Late Colonial (19th-early 20th centuries); World War II; Recent (post-war); and Oral History and Genealogical Research.
