Security to be tightened atKoblerville youth center
Still reeling from a vandalism incident earlier this month, the Koblerville Community Center will be improving its security system to deter new attacks.
Over a week ago, vandals who have yet to be identified by the police broke a window of the center, prompting the administration of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres to close it down for repairs.
Shelane Borja, special assistant for the Division of Youth Affairs, said that security measures are being tightened at the center to ensure that the center wouldn’t be vandalized again.
According to Borja, she has partnered up with different agencies to secure the center. “We’re working with partners now to find ways where we can secure the safety of the center,” she said.
Police have yet to identify the suspects in the latest vandalism. “The detectives are working on their own process because we’re not the only victims of this accident,” said Boja.
She remains unsure as to when the doors of the center will be open again, but she assured that she and her team are working hard to open the center as soon as possible.
“We are trying our best to open it so that we can start serving the participants that we currently serve,” said Borja.
She feels that if the center stays closed for too long, it will only burden the students who use the facility.
“It’s hurting them because the services have to stop and, especially now that the schools have opened, this is a safe place for them to come to and do their homework,” said Borja.
She said the main goal is to secure the center.
According to Borja, she has been working with partners to further improve the center’s security by installing shutters, installing a CCTV system, and upgrading the center’s alarm system.
Borja explained that the system currently installed at the center could only detect breathing and living objects within. It did not go off when a rock was thrown into the center through the window. Borja plans to upgrade the current system.
Borja hopes the advancements will give her office and the center the capability to monitor everything that goes on, both inside and outside of the center.
