Balakrishna bags July Ace

Steve Balakrishna bested 14 other golfers to bag the July Ace of the Month of the Saipan Golfers Association held last July 16 at the Marianas Country Club in Marpi.

Balakrishna scored a 41 through the first nine holes and capped his performance with a 39 at the back. He had a gross score of 80 and having an 11 handicap, gave him a net of 69 for a two-shot win over Das Krishnan.

Krishnan, also an 11 handicapper, finished with a gross score of 82—42-40—for a 71 net, while Alex Tudela and Frank Castro ended up tied for third place with the former beating the latter after the scorecard tiebreak.

Tudela had rounds of 43 and 39 for an 82 and with a nine handicap, ended up with a 73. Castro’s 73 were courtesy of 45 and 42 at the front and back 9s and with a 14 handicap came up with the said score.

Balakrishna joins other SGA monthly Ace winners Frances Sablan (January), John “Nanni” Cruz (February), Juan Lizama (March), Nick Sablan (April), Rep. Lorenzo Deleon Guerrero (May), and Krishnan (June).

Frances Sablan had the longest drive in No. 2, while Joe Demapan duplicated her feat in No. 11. Deleon Guerrero led the closest to the pin winners in No. 6, while Greg Sablan and Frank Castro had the same results in Nos. 8 and 12, respectively.

SGA’s Ace of the Month continues this Sunday, Aug. 27, with its August shoot-fest at the Kingfisher Golf Links. Show time is at 8:20am and SGA members would tee off after one hour.
