CUC power outages this week
There will be a series of power outages this week that will affect Capital Hill, Garapan, and Beach Road.
The first power outage tomorrow, Aug. 24, will be from 9am to 1pm, affecting Commonwealth Utilities Corp. customers on Capital Hill.
Areas that will be affected include Capitol Hill Rd., Tapochao Road, partial of Chalan Galaidi, Capitol Hill Homestead, and Isa Drive (Cator PI., Atbut Dr.,Panao PI., Aluw PI., Kalaskas Dr., Nanka Ln., Otto PI., Cat Calw PI., Apple PI., Egigi Dr., Nosa Ln., Dulili Ln., Gaga Karisu Dr., Gagatasi Ln., Ifet Dr., and Yogga Ln.
This will allow the CUC line crew to replace the deteriorated power pole hardware on Capital Hill Road and on Isa Drive. This is part of an ongoing project to strengthen and harden the integrity of the power distribution system throughout the islands.
Water services will be interrupted during the duration of the power interruption. Water wells affected are CH-1,CH-2, CH-3, and TP-1. All services will be restored after the power is re-energized.
There will then be a power outage in Garapan on Aug. 25, Friday, from 9am to 1pm, to allow CUC line crew to replace three 100KVA transformers with three 37.5 KVA pole mounted transformers.
Areas affected by Friday’s power interruption are Kadena di Amor and Chichirica Avenue in Garapan.
This is part of the ongoing program to improve the efficiency of power distribution throughout Saipan.
The day after, Aug. 26, there will be a power interruption affecting Beach Road from 5:30am to 10:30am, from Triple J Motors south to the traffic light by Atkins Kroll Toyota.
Wastewater lifts station to be affected is S-12 and traffic light affected is San Jose (near Atkins Kroll Toyota).
This will allow CUC line crew to safely replace four wooden power poles with concrete poles along Beach Road. This is part of an ongoing hazard mitigation project that involves the replacement of 787 wooden poled with concrete poles.
A total of 303 wooden poles have already been replaced with concrete ones and there are still 484 poles that need to be replaced.
Due to the scale of work that will be performed in the days mentioned, CUC asks travelers to take alternate routes or to exercise caution when driving through the affected areas.
