A consistent participant in National Speech and Debate Association competitions believe that these activities motivate young individuals to find their voice and speak up.

During the Rotary Club of Saipan meeting last week at the Hyatt Regency Saipan, veteran NSDA participant Yukii Nishida said his participation in speech performances and debates has also allowed him to become a good influence to his peers.

Nishida has been participating in NSDA competitions since he was in Kindergarten up until high school. Recently, Nishida was given the Four-Year National Qualifier Award at the 2017 National Speech and Debate Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama last June.

He counts the many opportunities that he has had with NSDA and that he would never forget the bond that was created between him and the friends he has made.

Two individuals also performed their pieces at the Rotary meeting.

Jonathan Wolfe performed a comedic piece that he prepared during the nationals last June.

The second performer was Vladimir Palma, who advanced to the final round and was ranked fifth in the nation for Dramatic Interpretation. Palma performed a dramatic piece.

In related news, the NSDA was able to break a record for the Commonwealth because for the first time, majority of the representatives from Saipan who took part in the national tournament advanced to the finals.
