Defending champion GSM Masters will start its title retention bid against the BSI Aces on Aug. 28 in the 2017 season of the Masters Baseball League at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.
Only four teams joined the Masters League with the Bolleros taking on the Papa Bears on Aug. 30. Game time is set at 6:30pm.
The Masters League, a program under the Saipan Baseball League, is for players 40 years old and above. The other division, which details of the season are still being finalized, is the Under-25 for youth players.
SBL league coordinator Tony Rogolifoi is reminding all teams in the Masters division to submit their final roster of players and $1,000 entry fee before the Aug. 28 opening. The entrance fee must be made payable to SBL Inc.
The U25 league held its meeting last Friday and details of what was discussed were not yet available at press time. Three teams have confirmed their participation in the U25 division: Blue Jays, C.K. Bears, and the Pirates.
The U25 is open to players starting at 17 years old, but those who are 16 could be allowed to play if he showed that he could compete against those who are older in the division.
U25 is a league that gives former Big League players under the Little League program the opportunity to continue playing baseball and at the same time further honing their skills.
Rogolifoi has also encouraged all teams to have their complete uniforms before the league opens and to look for their respective sponsors to help them defray the league expenses—entry fees, uniforms, and equipment.
For more information, call Rogolifoi or SBL Inc. secretary Marlena Castro at 234-6672.
