Jason Sablan and Ned Norita clinched the two-for-one Aces of the Month organized by the Marianas Golf Association last Sunday at the Kingfisher Golf Links.

This was MGA’s second combined monthly tournament to make up for the months they failed to hold a golf event of their own.

The club has to give way to local tournaments like the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, Northern Marianas College Foundation, and Tournament of Champions held early this year.

Sablan topped Sunday’s event with a net 70 to clinch the August monthly crown with Norita and Marco Peter coming in tied for second place with 72 apiece.

Norita, however, clinched second place and the July Ace after the count back tiebreaker.

Closest to the pin winners were Joey Dela Cruz in hole No. 6, David Largent in No. 8, and James Benavente in No. 15.

Sablan and Norita now join Peter Tenorio (January), Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho (February), Jessica Sonoda (March), J.J. Atalig (April) Gerald Guerrero (May), and Calvin Yamagishi (June) as monthly aces.

MGA, now on its fifth year of being established, returns to its regular monthly tournament on Sept. 16 at the Marianas Counry Club. Show time is at 9am and players tee off after an hour.

MGA is inviting all of its members and other golfers in the community to join them in the tournament.

Atalig (president), Largent (vice president), Geri Dela Cruz (secretary), Benavente (treasurer), and Yamagishi (tournament director) are MGA’s current officers.

MGA has an active 30 members made up of young and senior, rookies and veterans, men and women CNMI residents who enjoy the game of golf.

For more information, call Yamagishi at 287-8894 or email MarianasGolf670@gmail.com or visit MGA’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/MarianasGolfAssociation.
