Governor’s Tourism Cup next month
Local golfers are invited to try their luck in the 2nd Annual Governor’s Tourism Cup Golf Tournament, scheduled on Sept. 2 at the east course of the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
Show time is at 6:30am while participants of the fundraising golf tournament would tee off at 7:30am.
The charity tournament is held to support the programs of the Marianas Tourism Educational Council and MY WAVE Club.
All proceeds would fund MTEC’s educational outreach programs to all schools like the annual tourism summit and other tourism-related activities that also involve MY WAVE Club.
Entry fee is $100 that includes the green fee, use of golf cart, refreshments, and access to the after tournament awards banquet.
The Double Peoria System, commonly used in fundraising contests, will be followed where the tournament committee secretly selecting and assigning handicap allowances to six holes.
The holes could either be two each from par 3s, par 4s or par 5s. Often times, it could also be one of each per nine—front or back. Golfers do not know the holes the committee selected while they are playing.
Championship (0-5 handicap), A (6-10), B (11-16), C (11-16), Ladies, and Over-55 Senior are the flights that are to be contested.
The Top 3 finishers in each flight will be getting cash prizes with the champion going home with $300, while the second and third placers earning $200 and $100 each.
Participants would also vie for prizes assigned in each hole—longest drive, closest to the pin, and the hole-in-one. Raffle draw prizes are also at stake in awards banquet.
Local businesses have either donated cash or in kind prizes for the hole-in-one and raffle drawing.
The tournament fee can be paid either by cash, credit cards and checks. Checks must be payable to MTEC.
Entry forms are available at the office of the Marians Visitors Authority in San Jose where payments can also be made.
