Kin seeks arrest of Emie’s killer before her body is flown home

Family members of murdered bartender Emerita “Emie” Relata Romero are urging authorities to arrest the killer before the victim’s body is flown to the Philippines.
The Department of Public Safety remained mum on the autopsy results as well as on any updates in the police’s investigation.
Police officer Jason Tarkong said that DPS Commissioner Ramon Mafnas has yet to give the go signal to release the autopsy results as well as other information.
Guam chief medical examiner Aurelio A. Espinola conducted the autopsy Tuesday night until Wednesday midnight at the Commonwealth Health Center’s morgue. The autopsy was intended to determine the victim’s cause of death.
The victim’s siblings, Eduardo Relata and Estrellita “Lhet” Relata, said yesterday they are requesting the FBI and DPS to speed up their investigation and arrest their sister’s killer.
“We are hoping that an arrest will be made or the case is solved before we bring our sister to the Philippines,” Eduardo Relata said.
The Relatas are planning to bring Romero’s remains to Bulacan, the Philippines, early next week.
At the same time, the Relatas are appealing to people to stop spreading wrong information or rumors about the death of their sister because their family and relatives back in the Philippines are currently grieving and in pain.
The Relatas have five other siblings in the Philippines. Romero’s husband and two daughters-17 and 8 years old-are in Bulacan, the Philippines.
The Relatas will be joining Monday night’s candlelight vigil, called “Take Back the Night,” to remember Romero and take a stand against violence on Saipan. The vigil is also a fundraiser for Romero’s two children.
The vigil, being organized by Romero’s co-workers at Godfather’s Bar, will be held at the tourist district in Garapan at 8pm to 9:30pm. Participants are asked to converge near Godfather’s Bar at 8pm.
Participants are encouraged to wear white shirts. Candles will be available at $5 each for donation to Romero’s family and children.
Romero was last seen alive on Sunday around 3am boarding a green or blue tinted car in the parking lot of Call-A-Ride Saipan in Garapan. FBI agents found her body at the abandoned La Fiesta Mall in San Roque Tuesday afternoon.
