79 Heroes in Guam hospitality industry honored

The Guam Visitors Bureau and Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association announced Friday the winners of the 2017 HERO Awards at its annual award ceremony at the Hilton Guam Resort and Spa.

Out of 79 total nominees, 14 winners were selected from seven different categories: Håfa Adai Spirit, Rookie of the Year, Middle Management, Supervisory, Non-Supervisory, Life Saving and Integrity.

Håfa Adai Spirit winners: Individuals who have contributed significantly to the promotion, awareness and preservation of the Hafa Adai spirit through the Håfa Adai Pledge. The Håfa Adai pledge is demonstrated through excellent hospitality services and activities promoting the Chamorro culture (e.g. music, art displays, performances, teaching and community involvement).  

• Leilani Champaco (T Galleria by DFS)

• Jonathan Sian (Pacific Islands Club Guam)

Rookie of the Year: New non-supervisory employees who have demonstrated consistent and excellent performance during the course of the job and have exhibited pride in rendering services. Winners embody an attitude to exceed guest expectations at every opportunity.

• Xeia Marie Olivario (Dusit Thani Guam Resort)

• James Calma (Leo Palace Resort Guam)

Middle Management winners: Middle-management employees who have demonstrated consistent and excellent performance during the course of the job. Winners have demonstrated productivity in his or her department and have instilled pride in service to those he or she manages.

• Anthony P. Blas (Hotel Nikko Guam)

• John Falan (Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort)

Supervisory winners: Supervisory employees who have demonstrated consistent and excellent performance during the course of the job. Winners have demonstrates productivity in his or her department and have instilled pride in service to those he or she supervises.

• Seichy Doone (Hotel Nikko Guam)

• Paul Ofalla Jr. (Hilton Guam Resort & Spa)

Non-supervisory winners: Non-supervisory employees who have demonstrated consistent and excellent performance during the course of the job and have exhibited pride in rendering services. They embody an attitude to exceed guest expectations at every opportunity.

• Perla Mendiola (Leo Palace Resort Guam)

• Hope Hiura (Hilton Guam Resort & Spa)

Life Saving winners: Individuals who demonstrated quick thinking and whose actions directly protected and/or saved a life. 

• Cyle John Reyes (Leo Palace Resort Guam)

• Nicolas Calvo (Leo Palace Resort Guam)  

Integrity winners: Individuals who have demonstrated a high level of integrity in protecting property and/or initiating the return process for lost or stolen property, personal or property at their place of employment.

• Nino Romero (Hilton Guam Resort & Spa)

• Nieves D. Lordios (Hotel Nikko Guam)
