SDA school is robbed weeks before opening
A private school was robbed less than three weeks before the opening of the new school year, leaving the entire school shaken up. The Seventh Day Adventist School was burglarized last Saturday.
According to SDA principal Randy Yates, the school was burglarized at 3am Saturday morning and the suspect was caught on security footage before the burglar disconnected the camera.
Yates and the school’s staff discovered the burglary upon arriving at the school the following day. Yates is saddened that someone could steal from a school, “let alone a school that caters to students as young as 1 year to 14 years old.”
According to Yates, the robber did not only steal from the students but also stole from a school, the staff, and every parent that has entrusted the SDA with their children.
The school had to repair its doors and lost items had to be replaced before the beginning of the school year on Aug. 10.
Despite the incident, Yates said they will press ahead with preparations and repairs and will be ready for the new school year.
“Will this dampen our spirit and goals? Not the least!” said Yates. “We are here for the students.”
Extra safety measures have been put in place to ensure that it will take a lot of work to break into SDA again.
“We have replaced the doors with metal doors and we are currently installing new surveillance cameras and system. We are also installing other safeguards that we hope will deter someone from wanting to break in…” said Yates.
He declined to identify the stolen items but did disclose that one of the valuables stolen was his personal ukulele.
The suspect was photographed through a surveillance camera before the camera was pulled out and disconnected. The authorities are still currently identifying the suspect.
The case is still under investigation and the suspect has yet to be identified and arrested.
“I hope they catch the guy not only for this crime he committed, but for possible future crimes he may commit,” added Yates.
