Rookie cop arrested for DUI
Drunk police cadet apprehended for not paying food at gas station
A rookie police officer was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly crashed his sports car while intoxicated, while a drunk police cadet was also apprehended on Sunday midnight for allegedly eating chips and other food without paying for them at a gas station and challenging the station’s employee to a fight.
Multiple sources disclosed that Dixon Kwon, a rookie police officer assigned with the Department of Public Safety as a DUI officer, was arrested for driving under the influence and other offenses. He was subsequently released; police are doing further investigation.
Aghilimal R. Faisao, 21, a police cadet, was arrested for theft, theft of service, assault, and disturbing the peace.
DPS has yet to release information about Kwon’s arrest as of yesterday.
Sources said that Kwon, who was allegedly intoxicated, was driving his sports car in the northern part of Saipan either Friday night or Saturday night. The car ran off the road and slammed into a tree. Kwon’s female passenger was injured.
Sources said that Kwon left the scene but was arrested at the Coral Ocean Point area that same night. His car had extensive damage.
At yesterday’s bail hearing in Faisao’s case, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $5,000 cash bail and set the preliminary hearing for Aug. 1 at 9am.
Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit was appointed as counsel for Faisao. Assistant attorney general Betsy Weintraub appeared for the government.
A police officer was sent to the Mobil gas station in Chalan Kiya on Sunday at 12:53am after police received a complaint about a disturbing the peace incident.
The officer arrived at 12:56am and met with a female cashier and a male pump attendant.
The officer learned that a drunk man, later identified as Faisao, went inside the gas station’s store and ordered some chips and took a pack of granola bar.
The cashier told Faisao to pay, but he stated he was going to eat them. He proceeded to the table, where he starting eating the chips. He made a mess on the table and floor with the food.
After eating the chips and drinking, Faisao washed his hands using the soda dispenser. The pump attendant told Faisao to wash his hands in the restroom and not at the drink dispenser.
Faisao passed by the pump attendant, allegedly whispered a profanity in his ear, and walked into the restroom. After Faisao came out, the pump attendant told him to pay for the items that he had consumed. Faisao challenged the attendant to a fight outside the store.
Faisao went back inside the gas station, pointed at the cashier in the counter, and asked her why she was calling the police.
Even when the police arrived, Faisao allegedly refused to pay.
The cashier said she was scared, thinking he would beat her up.
The store’s surveillance camera captured the incident, police said.
It is not clear whether Faisao will be among those police cadets who will graduate this Friday, considering his arrest.
