Hix is Young Professional of the Year
Nola Hix, along with other club members, were presented with awards last Saturday at the second anniversary shindig of the Marianas Young Professionals, or MYPros, called the White Sand Gala at the Surf Rider Restaurant.
Hix, who is a Xerox Corp. executive on Saipan, co-founded MYPros and is its vice president. The other award nominees were Bobby Cruz of the Public School System and Rob Travilla, founder and creator of the Salbahe brand and co-founder of Tribe Marianas in 2015.
The group’s Volunteer of the Year award went to Commonwealth Advocates for Recovery Efforts’ Maxine Laszlo. Laszlo has been working with CARE as the AmeriCorps VISTA Resource Development coordinator. She bested two other nominees: Wayne Dawe, lead ranger of the Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance’s Tasi Watch, and Jihan Buniag, the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality’s CNMI Coral Reef Initiative Program coordinator.
The Bridge Capital Spotlight Award went to Sheila Babauta, who is the Office of the Governor’s Capital Improvement Program contracting officer’s technical representative. The other nominees were Commonwealth Office of Transit Authority special assistant for public transportation Alfreda Camacho, Hofschneider Engineering project engineer Emanuel “Manny” Borja, and Marianas Geotech Services owner James “Bill” Ripple.
MYPros president Matt Deleon Guerrero, who works as the chief-of-staff of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, was satisfied with Saturday’s turnout.
“I am happy with the last two years of the MYPros in the CNMI,” he said, adding that the group has been actively contributing to the community.
“We are still shooting to advance young professionals in the CNMI in all fields and all sectors,” he said. “There are a lot of contributions that young professionals could provide to the businesses and government agencies.”
MYPros is a group of young professionals dedicated to giving back to the community of the CNMI.
Hix underscored this when asked for comments: “It is nice to put value into your hard work and [the purpose in] forming this non-profit organization was to get all of the young professionals to give back to the community and get back into the community and become servant leaders.”
