Kagman Community Center expansion done
The expansion of the Kagman Community Center will officially be open to the public in a week and will showcase state-of-the-art sporting equipment and a variety of activities.
The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs will first open the facility beside the center in order to maximize the use of the grounds and to accommodate more individuals while the center itself is undergoing renovations.
According to DCCA Secretary Robert Hunter, the Kagman Community Center is one of the most occupied on island. It accommodates children, teens, and adults. It is also a place where children and youth under the Division of Youth Services come to enjoy themselves and meet with friends.
The center can only accommodate 50 people at most. The department decided to renovate and possibly expand it, starting first with the sporting facility outside and then with the additional renovations to the interior.
According to Hunter, DCCA was granted over $300,000 through the Community Development Block Grant for this project.
Aside from the sporting facility, the department also plans to add an auditorium, computers, and more.
According to Hunter, the purpose of the renovations is not only to accommodate more people, but also to create a place for everyone to get together and enjoy the company of one another through different activities.
He estimates that the center will be completely done by January next year.
