Man, 59, allegedly points gun at another on Tinian
On Tuesday, a 59-year-old man on Tinian allegedly pointed a gun at another man that he had accused of using his bush cutter in Marpo Valley.
Alvin Barcinas Ogo, a former employee of the Tinian Department of Public Works, was arrested on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace.
At a hearing yesterday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $25,000 cash bail on Ogo and set the preliminary hearing for July 26 at 1:30pm.
Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit was appointed as Ogo’s counsel. Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
Police said that that James Mendiola called the Tinian Department of Public Safety for police assistance on Tuesday at 3:22pm because Ogo allegedly pointed a gun at one of his workers.
Three police officers responded. Upon heading north to Marpo Valley, they noticed a forklift truck traveling south, being driven by Ogo. One officer ordered Ogo to stop the truck and surrender his rifle. Ogo obeyed. The other officer also confiscated from the suspect a knife attached to his belt.
During an interview, the victim told police that he and two companions were cutting some trees by the driveway at the residence of James Mendiola when Ogo arrived on a truck, with the forklift following him. Ogo then picked up the bush cutter that the victim was using and put it in the back of the truck. The worker told Ogo to put the bush cutter back because it belonged to Mendiola. Ogo insisted that it was his.
Ogo then allegedly took a rifle from the passenger side of the truck, loaded it with bullets, then pointed the gun at the worker.
The victim told police that he was about 40 to 50 feet away from the suspect at that time.
