Charitable group robbed
A charitable organization based on Saipan, the Empty Vessel Ministry Foundation, was broken into last Saturday and authorities are now investigating the matter.
The suspect or suspects are accused of stealing four conventional ovens and a gas stove. The appliances were intended to serve as prizes for the foundation’s “Top Chef Competition” event.
According to the Empty Vessel Ministry Foundation founder Rose Smith, the items were all inside the organization’s storage room.
Although authorities are now looking into the case, Smith herself has her own suspicions. She believes the culprit is a client who had visited one of the organization’s outreach programs and that he or she may have been under the influence of drugs.
Right now, the foundation is awaiting the results of the investigation and for the release of more information.
Smith and the foundation are calling on the community for help in hopes of retrieving the stolen items. The organization can be reached at 483-0162.
EVMF is a faith-based organization that focuses on humanitarian work, like helping families in need. It also hosts the annual “Top Chef Competition,” which honors the islands’ junior chefs.
According to Saipan Tribune archives, the foundation got started here on Saipan, with hopes of expanding the mission to care for orphans in Kenya, which the organization has done.
The organization has since expanded its mission to help, especially after Typhoon Soudelor that devastated the island in August 2015.
