Saipan Mayor’s Office establishes light post adoption

In the spirit of beautification, Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang has created an Adopt-a-Post Program that would allow offices, organizations, individuals, and groups to adopt any of the light posts lined up along Beach Road and central Garapan.
It will work this way: the Saipan Mayor’s Office will hang flower containers on each post. Those who’ve adopted the post will then be required to maintain the flowers around that post. The adoption program does not include paying for the power consumed by the light post.
According to Apatang, his office will be working with the Marianas Visitors Authority on this new program.
He said the adoption of a light post is free of charge but each individual, group, or organization must maintain the post on their own time.
This adds to the many other projects that Apatang’s office has already established.
Apatang will open the adoption process once the posts have been prepared.
The Saipan Mayor’s Office has also started using its newest machine, a skid loader that is used to clear roadside debris.
According to mayor’s office operations manager Joann Aquino, the machine was taken out to Kagman 1. It will also be used to clear the roadside debris in Kagman 2 and 3 too, she said.
The skid loader has been in use since Friday and will continue to be used to further beautify the Commonwealth.
All other beautification efforts will continue like the daily village cleanups, tree trimming, stray dog control, and junk car removal. The office will also continue to clean up the Veterans Cemetery until the Veterans Affairs Office is able to put together a team that will maintain the cleanliness of the cemetery.
