Firefighter is arrested for alleged domestic spat

A firefighter allegedly shattered the window of a house in Dandan, causing an inch-long gash on his former girlfriend’s temple and another inch-long cut on her right forearm early Thursday morning.

After breaking the glass window with a punch, Kaegel Tebuteb Taitano, 24, allegedly told the bloodied victim “that’s what you get” before leaving on a pickup truck.

Taitano was arrested later that morning on charges of assault and battery, criminal mischief, and disturbing the peace.

When a police officer arrived at the house at 3:21am, the officer saw blood on the victim’s head and right forearm. An ambulance brought the alleged victim to the Commonwealth Health Center, where she got six stitches on her left temple and several stitches on the right arm. She also had several small cuts on the neck.

On Friday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $10,000 cash bail on Taitano; preliminary hearing is on July 21 at 1:30pm.

The court will appoint a private counsel for Taitano as he is a former employee of the Office of the Public Defender, which creates a potential conflict of interest.

Assistant attorney general Jonathan Wilberscheid appeared for the government.

The Department of Public Safety Central sent a police officer on Thursday at 3:11am to a house in Dandan in response to an alleged domestic violence incident.

After seeing the victim, the officer also observed the front window of the house was shattered and broken pieces of glass were inside the house. The officer noticed that a picnic table in front of the house had been flipped over.

The victim was brought to CHC at 3:36am.

The alleged victim told police that she was sleeping with her 7-year-old son when she heard a loud banging from one of the windows near the door to her house.

The victim got out of the room, looked out the window, and saw Taitano. She was surprised because she and Taitano had been separated for about a month now.

Taitano asked her to open the door but she refused because she was scared as he was cussing at her and banging the window with his hand.

She told Taitano to go home. Taitano then punched the window, causing the glass to break.

As she was standing close to the window, Taitano’s punch struck her on the left temple, causing her injuries.

Taitano then left the house. The victim called the police.

The victim’s mother, who lives behind her daughter’s house, told police that she was sleeping when she heard a very loud noise at about 3am and saw Taitano walking toward the truck and leaving.

The mother woke up her husband and told him that Taitano was there. The couple headed to their daughter’s house, where they saw her covered in blood all over her face, neck, chest, and clothes.

The mother said her daughter appeared in shock and was crying and shaking.

The mother said her daughter stated that she did not call them because it happened so quickly.

The father said that when he checked his grandson inside the room, the boy appeared scared. He told the grandson to go back into the room because he does not want him to see his mother injured and also due to broken glass on the floor.
