Konqer is coming to Saipan

In line with the Marianas Visitors Authority’s promotion of sports tourism in the CNMI, Konqer sports is coming to Saipan. The 2017 Konqer Sports Tour is happening on Saipan on Sept. 9 at the Gov. Eloy S. Inos Peace Park in Puerto Rico.

Konqer promotes wellness through play where participants go through, under, and over natural and man-made obstacle challenges and make a run to the finish line. It started in Guam three years ago and from there, the Konqer tour of wellness continued the journey to Palau last June 9-11, and finally, in the CNMI this September.

DR Safety Consultant marketing manager Valentina Rivera said, “We are responsible for marketing and promoting Konqer on island. It is the first Konqer on Saipan. The event here will be based on Saipan’s history and landscape. The obstacle course will include hiking, running, and swimming. Highlighting what Saipan is all about.”

The obstacle course is composed of 15 challenges. “The obstacle course will have two elements: challenge and fun. The degree of difficulty will be tested in the ramp jump with The Monster and Spider Man behind it. But even with that, we are making it less intimidating to the participants because we want people to finish the course and enjoy the whole Konqer experience.”

“For elite athletes, we have Konqer enduro where they would run the course for time. For individuals or group of friends who wants to have fun, can repeat the course and not worry about race time, we have Konqer completion. For companies that want to take advantage of the event and hold their team building exercise we have the Konqer business. For people who want to go straight to the core obstacles and skip the others we have Konqer sprint,” Rivera added

Konqer is open to men and women, residents and visitors, in all ages including children. Early registration is encouraged to get the early bird rate: $750 for business team composed of 10 members, $75 for 18 years old and above, $40 for 15-17 years old and it is free for 14 years old and below.

“Since you can choose any of the obstacle course that suits you, anyone can join even families with their children,” Rivera said

Konqer’s vision is not only wellness in health but also wellness in promoting the beautiful landscape of the city there are visiting.

“One of Konqer’s objectives is give reverence to the islands that they visit. The event will be held at the Gov. Eloy S. Inos Peace Park, which used to be a dumpsite. Now that it is converted into a beautiful park where we can do different things like hold events as big as Konqer. We want the community and people from other parts of the world to understand Saipan and what it can offer,” Rivera said

Konqer is guaranteed to give participants an experience of a lifetime, said Dave Rillera, DR Safety Consultant officer and Konqer Palau participant.

“I witnessed an old couple join in Palau and finished the race. They ran in their own pace, hand-in-hand and of course they received assistance especially in going over one wall but they went through the obstacle course and finished strong.”
