The top of a tractor-trailer with a 40-foot container of Best Sunshine accidentally brushed against a branch of a flame tree while its driver was backing up, causing the branch to fall on the trailer along Beach Road in Chalan Laulau yesterday afternoon.
The trailer’s roof had a big dent but the male driver was not hurt.
Saipan Tribune learned that the driver was backing up to enter into a compound of Best Sunshine next to Triple J Motors at about 3pm when the trailer top somehow hit the flame tree’s branch. The branch broke from its base and crashed into the trailer.
A construction worker said they were building a fence at the Best Sunshine compound when he saw the flame tree branch fall on the trailer.
The accident snarled traffic in the area for over an hour as the tree and the trailer blocked the road. Police re-routed the northbound vehicles to the Quartermaster Road as the Saipan Mayor’s Office crew cut the branch.
Last Thursday, a tractor-trailer with a 40-foot container of Best Sunshine accidentally dragged a Docomo Pacific cable wire along Chalan Pale Arnold Road and toppled a pole, triggering a power outage in Tanapag.
