2 men re-arrested for trafficking, ‘ice’ possession
A suspected distributor of methamphetamine or “ice” and another man who had been found with “ice” were re-arrested on Wednesday.
Milton B. Camacho, 36, and Froilan Mendiola Camacho, 46, were re-arrested after the Office of the Attorney General revoked their release on their own recognizance.
The OAG allege that both have failed in their promises to help law enforcers with ongoing investigations.
At a hearing yesterday, Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo re-imposed the $100,000 cash bail on Milton Camacho and $50,000 cash bail on Froilan Camacho. Preliminary hearing in both cases will be on July 6 at 9am.
Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig was appointed as counsel for both suspects. Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
According to the CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force, Milton Camacho was arrested on Oct. 31, 2016, for trafficking and illegal possession of “ice,” while Froilan Camacho was arrested on May 31, 2017 for illegal possession of “ice.”
Upon their arrest, the Camachos agreed to serve as confidential informants in exchange for their release on their own recognizance but Hinds moved on Wednesday to revoke their release for not complying with the conditions of their release.
Task force officer Rudolph C. Sablan Jr. stated in his report that a “cooperating source” disclosed on March 31, 2016, that Milton Camacho sells “ice” in Chalan Kanoa.
The “cooperating source” alleged that Milton Camacho, who gets his “ice” supply from a woman at a dress shop in Chalan Kanoa, offered to buy meth from him.
The “cooperating source” managed to buy $160 worth of 0.9 gross grams of “ice” from Milton Camacho during a controlled “buy-walk operation” at his home in Chalan Kanoa on April 21, 2016.
Sablan said the seized crystal-like substance tested presumptive positive for crystal meth.
In Froilan Camacho’s case, Hinds said police officers executed a search warrant at the home on Navy Hill related to a criminal investigation on May 31, 2017.
Hinds said investigators discovered two baggies containing 0.7 gross grams of crystal-like substance and other drug paraphernalia inside the defendant’s pants that were hanging on the wall. The substance later tested presumptive positive for meth.
Froilan Camacho allegedly admitted owning the drugs.
