Tinian mayor backs ASL workshop

In collaboration with Mayor Joey Patrick San Nicolas’ office and the program under the Tinian Youth Center headed by director Lorrah Santos, youth and adult participants received American Sign Language training from June 19 to 22.
Students from the University of Gallaudet (Washington, D.C.) together with their interpreter/founder/director of “Månha Project” Heather Zimmerman taught American Sign Language at the Tinian Youth Center.
This is the first time Zimmerman hosted an ASL camp/workshop on Tinian. Myra Aguon, Angela Roger, Darriyan Thomas, and Connor Baer, all students from the University of Gallaude, assisted in teaching the participants basic American Sign Language.
“I want to thank director Santos from our Tinian Youth Center and her staff for coordinating and hosting this extremely valuable workshop. It empowers our youth and adult participants to better serve our community members, most especially our youth and adults who are in need of American Sign Language services,” said San Nicolas. (PR)
