Apatang re-appoints SHEFA board members
Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang has re-appointed three board members to the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance.
The terms of board members Raymond Muna, Ursula Lifoifoi Aldan, and Francisco Cabrera have expired but their re-appointments mean they are headed back to the scholarship program.
Muna, Aldan, and Cabrera served a term of two years on the SHEFA board.
According to Apatang, he chose to re-appoint these members because of their outstanding performances.
Apatang has already confirmed their re-appointment and is just waiting for the required documents and the confirmation of the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation.
The re-appointments are still subject to confirmation by delegation chair Rep. John Paul Sablan (R-Saipan). The re-appointment will be voted on at the upcoming delegation session.
According to Apatang, he believes in the work and qualifications of all three board members.
“I am confident that they are qualified to continue serving on the SHEFA board and that they are assets on the board,” he wrote in his email.
Currently, Apatang is still awaiting documents like police clearances, drug test results, and resumes from the three.
They will serve another two years if the re-appointments are confirmed by the delegation.
Discussions on extending the relocation deadline for poker establishments to Garapan should also be continued in the upcoming delegation session.
Apatang hopes that a solution is figured out soon, whether it’s extending the relocation period or if it’s finding another source of funding for the SHEFA program.
