Torres to sit down with DPS chief and Rota director

A very public feud between Public Safety Commissioner Robert Guerrero and Rota resident director Eusebio Manglona in early June has forced Gov. Ralph DLG Torres to enter the fray.

Torres told reporters in an interview last Friday that he has called in Guerrero and Manglona and will be meeting with both soon.

“I decided to call both individuals in,” said Torres. “I would be meeting with them sometime next week to resolve this issue and clarify once and for all because issues like these can be resolved internally.”

The meeting, which Torres said would be held here on Saipan, intends to resolve the issue between the two—to determine what has transpired and what is to be done from there.

“I have already communicated with both of them and both are willing to sit down and make things work. We will go from there,” said Torres.

Torres said he wants to know what kind of support Manglona is asking for, as well as what kind of support the local municipality is obligated to do.

Manglona earlier expressed dissatisfaction with Guerrero, complaining that the DPS chief failed to invite Rota to take part in many DPS events. He also claims that Guerrero has not acted on his request to deputize two Rota Mayor’s Office employees, among other issues.

Guerrero did clarify that the two Rota Mayor’s Office employees are not DPS employees and that deputizing them would violate the law.

Guerrero also mentioned that communication between DPS officers of both Saipan and Rota have been constant.

The exact date of their meeting with Torres has not been specified.
