The Marianas Visitors Authority wowed the crowd at the 2017 Hana International Travel Show held this month in Gyeonggi province, Korea, presenting a giant, 360-degree virtual reality dome that was the first ever in the history of the Korean tourism industry.

Organized by Hana Tour, the major wholesaler in Korea, HITS gathered over 1,000 tourism authorities, airlines, hotels, attractions, and other industry partners to introduce their products and services to business partners and interested travelers from the general public.

Hana Tour also offered its tour products at a special price at the fair, which attracted more than 100,000 people. Over 1,000 attendees booked Saipan package tours during the four-day event.

“The virtual reality dome was a great success at HITS and was well received by both general consumers and travel trade partners,” said MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. “It was a unique and thrilling opportunity for them to be immersed in images from Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.”

The MVA provided tour information and discussed promotional opportunities with Hana Tour branch agents on the B2B day. During three days for consumers, the team introduced the Marianas as the best vacation destination by distributing mini-guidebooks and interacting directly with potential visitors. Also, the team showed a video of various activities, gourmet dining, festivals, and island attractions.

The MVA also conducted an SNS hashtag contest twice a day during the consumer days. Visitors took photos at the photo zone inside the booth and posted them on their Instagram with the hashtags #ParadiseForEveryone and #MyMarianas. Event participants are eligible to win an ICN-SPN roundtrip flight ticket for two people, department store vouchers, and Starbucks drink coupons. (MVA)
