Rota, Tinian to challenge Saipan in district meet
The 2017 CNMI District Tournament will kick off today with Rota, Tinian, and Saipan battling for the Asia Pacific Regional Championships slot in the Majors division.
The opening ceremony will be held at 10am at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield with Saipan and Rota teams in the Junior and Senior League divisions also vying for the ASPAC seats.
In the Majors division, three preliminary games are set from 11am to 3pm at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield with the Top 2 teams after the round-robin contest advancing to the finals, which is set for Saturday at 10am. The winner of the championship game will earn the right to represent the CNMI in the ASPAC, which will be held in South Korea late this month.
In the Junior League division, Rota and Saipan will play in a best-of-three format. Game 1 is set for 11am today at “Tan Ko” field, while Game 2 is scheduled at 10am tomorrow. Game 3, if needed, will take place this Sunday, beginning at 10am.
The same best-of-three format will be in effect in the Senior League division with Game 1 slated at 1pm today and Game 2 at 1pm tomorrow. Game 3, if necessary, will be played also at 1pm this Sunday.
Saipan will host both the ASPAC in the Junior and Senior League divisions from June 22 to July 3. In the Junior League, the CNMI will be pitted against Chinese-Taipei, the Philippines Hong Kong, and Guam, while the Senior League will have the host, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Guam.
Winners of the Saipan-hosted ASPAC will advance to the World Series.
